By marriage:

According to Article 16 of the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901, marrying a Turkish citizen does not directly acquire Turkish citizenship. However, foreigners who have been married to a Turkish citizen for at least three years and whose marriage continues can apply to acquire Turkish citizenship. Requirement of applicants;

  • Living in family unity
  • Not to engage in any activity incompatible with the union of marriage,
  • Conditions of not being in a situation that would constitute an obstacle in terms of national security and public order are sought.

By investment:

In 2018, the Turkish Government grants Turkish citizenship to foreigners who have purchased real estate worth at least 400,000 USD or invested at least 500,000 USD in Turkey, or employ 50 Turkish personnel on the condition that they do not transfer or sell their investments for 3 years.

Upon the determination and approval of the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre that the value of the real estate is not less than 250.000 USD with the declared value of the real estate, based on the report of the CMB licensed Real Estate Appraisers, the requests for Turkish citizenship are answered within the following 6 months. Turkey does not oblige to renounce current citizenship. Spouses and all children under the age of 18 of the applicant can also acquire Turkish citizenship.

Real estate owners, citizenship of foreign nationals with residence permits

Foreign nationals who own real estate (regardless of the value of the real estate or the date of acquisition) who have obtained a 5-year uninterrupted residence permit in Turkey can apply for Turkish citizenship.

By birth

The fact that only one of the parents is a Turkish citizen at the time of birth and the other is a citizen of another country is not an obstacle for the child to be born to acquire Turkish citizenship.
